Concept: "peoplecracy.org" aims to create an IT platform (eg. web application or OpenSource code) that facilitates the exercising of real-time democracy at town, state, and nation's level. The platform would have to be designed to be quickly integrated into local, state and nation's administrations. It should integrate diverse methods of proving one's identity such us credit cards, electronic ID cards, or even the most rudimentary case of going to the city council and sign-up. Once signed-up, the user can express his/her vote about a list of short-term political issues concerning that administration. Also he/she can submit proposals, and promote proposals to be voted by the community. It does not make sense we are still using a18th century sort of democracy when the access to information, the values, the education, and other aspects of the general population have changed so much in the last 200 years. It does not make sense that any citizen has access to real-time information concerning his/her community, but he/she can only exercise democracy every 4 years. There is a clear correlation between democracy and social/economical progress. It is not a fortuity that advanced societies such us Switzerland or the state of California already have mechanisms to allow their citizens to propose, submit, and implement political measures overcoming the rigidities and resistance of the political establishment. Peoplecracy tries to facilitate that process so much that political institutions would not have any other option but accepting it. Peoplecracy can run in conjunction with the administration, or parallel to it until it is accepted. Peoplecracy is online, 2.0 democracy. Peoplecracy applies on the shorter term more to developed countries (established democracies, Internet access, availability of free information, etc) but over time it should expand everywhere.
Stages: A) Understanding better the concept of democracy across cultures, countries and history. B) Designing a first version of the IT platform C) Launching Beta version and liaising with volunteer administrations to run the system, learn, and refine the model. D) Trying to expand as much as possible leveraging on the concept of "X administration cares more about its citizens because it lets them to have real-time democracy".
